Step 1
- Cut fibreglass matting into 1m squares or long strips for ease of use
- Ensure that your catalyst is in a dispenser ready for measuring.
- Ensure that all tools and materials are at hand (see list in Tips before starting)
Step 2
- If using plywood or OSB boards ensure that you nail or screw down securely.
- Sand down and fix trims and corners where required.
Step 3
- Mix Approximately 2kg of resin with the correct ratio of catalyst (approx. 10-20 ml Catalyst per 1kg Resin) depending on weather conditions.
Step 4
- Working with 2m square of area using a brush or paint roller apply a thick coat of catalysed resin to your prepared surface.
- Immediately lay the matting to the wet surface. Using a brush apply more resin.
- Once the matting is totally wetted out (you will need to use approx. 1kg resin to 1m square of matting) proceed to the next step.
Step 5
- You are now ready to repeat the procedure with the second layer.
- You should always stagger overlaps of matting to avoid a section becoming too thick.
- Coat the second layer of matting with resin and, using a metal roller, consolidate the 2 layers eliminating any trapped air and wrinkles.
- For large areas we suggest you use an extension handle in your roller to avoid constant stooping and stretching.
Step 6
- Move across to the next area and repeat steps 4 and 5, ensuring that the joints in each layer are overlapped by the succeeding layer.
Step 7
- Allow to harden for approx. 2 hours before applying Flow Coat
Step 8
- Applying the Flow Coat. This needs to be applied soon after the newly fabricated structure is 'hardened' to ensure a good bond. The Flo-Coat will provide the UV stable 'weather' or 'wear' suface.
- Mix approximately 2kg of Flow Coat with the catalyst (approx. 20ml - 30ml of catalyst PER KILO of flow coat).
- Paint the catalysed flow coat to the surface of the whole roof with a large paint brush or roller (you should aim for 600g - 750g of flow coat to 1m square).
Step 9
- If an aggregate finish is required it can now be applied (while surface is still wet)
Step 10
- Roof should be dry and ready to stand on within approx. 3 hours depending on weather conditions.
Note: Plywood or OSB boards can be pre-primed with resin if rain is forecasted to prevent water ingress to the surface.
