Fibreglass Repair
I had a couple of repairs to do on the gel coat of my jet ski. CYB very kindly told me how to repair them and here are some pictures of the repair.
Firstly I had to cut and remove the damaged gel coat around the area that needed repair.
I found a colour match gel coat. Added catalyst to the gel coat and painted it on to the area.
Using wet and dry I flattened the gel coat back to a level surface.
I then had to coat the area with a "flow coat" which is gel coat with a wax in styrene additive so that i could use it as a top coat. I sanded the area again with a very fine wet and dry then polished it with compound and t-cut.
Helpful note picked up from CYB...
Gel coat will stay tacky if used on the outside of a repair. You need to use a "flow coat" the wax in syrene inhibits the air to enable it to go off and create a smooth surface.
